ABOUT THE AUTHORS OF THE BOOK

Marion J. Franz, MS, RDN, CDE is a nutrition/health consultant with Nutrition Concepts by Franz, Inc. She has authored over 250 articles, books, booklets, and book chapters on diabetes, nutrition, and exercise and lectures frequently in the United States and internationally. She is the lead author on the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Evidence-Based Nutrition Practice Guidelines for Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes, author of American Diabetes Association nutrition position statements and technical reviews, and co-editor of the American Diabetes Association Guide to Nutrition Therapy for Diabetes, 1st and 2nd editions. She has received numerous awards including the 2001 American Diabetes Association Charles H. Best Medal for Distinguished Service in the Cause of Diabetes, the 2006 Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Medallion Award, and the 2012 American Association of Diabetes Educators Living Legend Award.

Jackie L. Boucher, MS, RDN, CDE is President of Children’s HeartLink in Minneapolis, MN. She leads an organization focused on training doctors and nurses in underserved parts of the world to diagnose and treat children with heart disease, ensuring they receive quality care. She has more than 25 years of experience in health care, education, public health and research, focusing on preventing and treating obesity, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease. She has been an active volunteer for the American Diabetes Association, serving on the Postgraduate Course and Scientific Sessions Planning Committee, as Associate Editor and Editor-in-Chief of Diabetes Spectrum, the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics including the Diabetes Care and Education Practice Group, and the American Association of Diabetes Educators. She has numerous publications as well as frequently lectures for professional organizations.

Raquel Franzini Pereira, MS, RDN for 20+ years has been helping people from all walks of life take steps to achieve their optimal health and well-being. Recently, she served for over seven years as community project manager for Hearts Beat Back: The Heart of New Ulm Project. Raquel has co-authored conferences and a book chapter. She is a co-author of this Pocket Guide from the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
