Welcome to The Stubborn Fat Fix Study Guide, a self-directed accredited learning program. This program consists of a book of the same title by Valerie Berkowitz, MS, RD, CDE and Keith Berkowitz, MD, MBA and this study guide.

This program is designed to assist you in counseling clients and patients who have chosen a low carbohydrate way of eating, and to provide you with a wealth of practical information and support for you and your clients.

This learning program is approved for 24 continuing professional education units (CPEUs). It is a Level 2 Continuing Professional Education (CPE) program, meaning that the reader has general knowledge of the literature and professional practice within the area covered. The focus of the program is to enhance knowledge and application.

To get the most out of this self-directed accredited learning program, it is suggested that you adhere to the following four steps:
Step 1: Review the objectives in this study guide.
Step 2: Read and study The Stubborn Fat Fix book.
Step 3: Assess what you have learned by answering the questions contained in this study guide.
Step 4: Compare your answers to the answer key provided in this study guide. If you score at least 80% correct, you are ready to transfer your answers to the CONTINUING PROFESSIONAL EDUCATION (CPEU) REPORTING FORM. If you scored less than 80% correct, re-read this learning program until you score at least 80% correct.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Valerie J. Berkowitz, MS, RD, CDN, CDE, is the co-author of The Stubborn Fat Fix, winner of The National "Best Books 2010" Awards for the diet and health category. After completing her graduate work from New York University, Valerie started her career as a clinical dietitian for the Long Island Jewish Medical Center/Schneider Children's Hospital. Since then Ms. Berkowitz has carved her niche as a low carbohydrate, high fiber, whole foods eating plan connoisseur. She is sought out by the media for her practical guidance on low carbohydrate and complimentary nutrition practices. Valerie has traveled the country lecturing on the "whole package" of wellness: eating healthy whole foods, exercising, taking nutritional supplements and above all, rest. She is now the Director of Nutrition at the Center for Balanced Health in New York City.
