The CPE program is designed to help you counsel your clients to manage chronic illness, and to foster lifelong health through the integrative and functional medicine paradigm. It is also designed to help you earn 28 Level 2, Continuing Professional Education Units (CPEUs).

To get the most out of this CPE program, it is suggested that you adhere to the following four steps:

  • Review the objectives in this study guide.
  • Read and study the book.
  • Assess what you have learned by answering the self-assessment questions in this study guide.
  • Compare your answers to the answer key, which you will find at the end of the study guide. If you scored at least 80% (40 questions) correct, you have completed the program and are ready to transfer your answers to the CONTINUING PROFESSIONAL EDUCATION REPORTING FORM in front of this study guide. If you scored less than 80% correct, re-read the appropriate sections of the book and until you score at least 80% correct.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR OF THE BOOK

Dr. Jeffrey S. Bland is known as the "father of functional medicine," a medical approach that focuses on the personalized prevention and treatment of chronic diseases. Over the past thirty-five years Dr. Bland has traveled more than six million miles, teaching more than a hundred thousand health-care practitioners in the United States, Canada, and more than forty other countries about functional medicine. He has been a university biochemistry professor, a research director at the Linus Pauling Institute of Science and Medicine, the cofounder of the Institute for Functional Medicine in 1991, and the founder/president of the Personalized Lifestyle Medicine Institute. He has authored more than one hundred scientific publications and ten books for health professionals and consumers. He lives in Seattle, Washington, with his wife, Susan, and near his three sons and their families while pursuing his hobbies of boating, surfing, and scuba diving, as well as a lifelong passion for learning.
